Hook, line, and sinker. Tsk tsk. You've become remarkably predictable, and frankly, a little too easy to troll. Knowing your fixation on anything Penny Swan breathes on, I dropped a line on her blog just to see who’d bite. And lo—here you are, pen names ablaze, delivering exactly what I wanted. I didn’t expect this much free rent in your latest dispatch, but hey, thanks.
First, your leap to label me "pro-LifeWays" is as impressive as it is revealing. That kind of binary thinking—hero vs. villain, for us or against us—is going to be a real obstacle for you as you mature. Of course, it’s also where your growth potential lies, should you choose to use it. Good luck.
Now, onto the specifics. You conveniently skipped the context of my comment. Ms. Swan asked about the legality of a sitting commissioner organizing or supporting a PAC to overturn a vote. I noted that democracy isn’t about endlessly revoting until you get the result you like. Sorry if that sounds too, I don’t know, adult? And had you read anything beyond the part where I baited you (congrats again on taking it), you’d see that I also expressed concern about the potential impact of Medicaid cuts on LifeWays funding. That’s a position I happen to disagree with Swan on—just as I’ve disagreed with Hendee on plenty. It’s called nuance. It’s called adulthood. You’ll love it when you get there.
Now as to the substance: in a representative democracy, commissioners are duty-bound to consider the fiduciary responsibility to all 40,000 residents of the county. That’s the real issue here—not a flurry of 75 emails. If you’d cracked open Tocqueville or even skimmed a bit of John Stuart Mills, you might get it. Ingles failed to build consensus. His rhetoric didn’t land. Saying so isn’t an attack—it’s a fact. Wiley? Sure, he’s a lost cause. But Leininger was persuadable. Even I’ve flipped council votes in real time with public comment. Ingles had his shot. He missed. Now he wants a mulligan.
And as for me “obsessively attending to things Hillsdale County for as long as we can remember”—I’m flattered! But really, no. You overestimate. The commission meetings are a slow crawl of procedural paint-drying. I check in on the spicy parts—outtakes only. The real action, as you’d know if you graduated from your anonymous peanut gallery, is with Hillsdale City Council. That’s the good stuff. And I sincerely thank you and your classmates for keeping things entertaining. Ratings are up.
Oh, and a final note: my preferred Ayn Rand pronoun is Howard Roark. Not John Galt. Get it right next time Ellsworth.
Ah yes, you secretly planned it all! Of course, no one could believe that considering that your initial post was full of errors--all of which you failed to address.
But you should look into the past few meetings and give it another shot. Who is the one looking for the "redo"? In what ways does your code of Ethics for public officials surpass what's required in ordinary legislative procedure? Answering these questions would be a good place for you to begin thinking through this issue. Less John Stuart Mill and more County Commissioners, we say.
As to your point about "the fiduciary responsibility to all 40,000 residents of the county," well, that seemed to us to be the thrust of the opposition's argument.
Your "points" were based on a false premise, that I supported lifeways, which I immediately dismissed. And they were taken entirely out of context, which I also clarified. So your claim is simply untrue.
What's up with this "we" crap? I know "Clovis" is a scared child with the fake pen names, but you now need to hunker down with your buddies in collective jargon?
Your support for LifeWays is not our premise. Our premise is that you did (do) not know what was (is) going on, and yet proceeded to imply all sorts of things about the matter, presumably in anticipation of the effects that your false rhetoric would have, though maybe not. It's a classic media maneuver.
Yet it was the premise you lead with Ellsworth. And the questions you asked were both stupid and redundant, but sure lets sample a few
---Who is the one looking for the "redo"?
Obviously the subject of my post, within the context of the question I was answering, Ingles. Keep up.
---In what ways does your code of Ethics for public officials surpass what's required in ordinary legislative procedure?
Stupid question and obvious if you had read what I was responding to. I stated what Ingle's was doing was legal (within the legislative procedure) yet unethical (outside the process). Of course, ethics are subjective yet I stand by my comments.
You are so laughable, at least we know why you hide behind a fake name... from embarrassment.
Tell you what, next time I am in Hillsdale, lets have a moderated debate. I'll even let you wear a bag over your head.
I held off commenting until our host had a chance to respond to me, but considering their non-responsive response, and their use of the collective phrase "we" they do indeed seem to be playing to their class of plebs.
It's too bad critical thought and the ability to engage in intelligent debate seems to be lost on them... even the Collegian at one time made a positive difference in the community.
It's ironic in fact how they have focused in on somehow characterizing me as a Ayn Rand protagonist... specifically "John Galt", which I find flattering. The ironic part being how Ayn Rand celebrated the individual... which takes me to another Ayn Rand character, the ultimate antagonist, Ellsworth Toohey. A yellow journalist, a collectivist, seeking power, with no creations of his own, hiding behind his publications and tearing others down.
If I'm "John Galt" in their eyes (or better yet Howard Roark) they absolutely are Ellsworth Toohey.
Between the "We", "Our", multiple pen names and narcissism, I'm wondering if we are looking at Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and/or Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Could this be self loathing directed at Lifeways based on your own issues? Regardless, the college does offer emotional support.
I recognize the tooney name, I'm not much of a political theory reader, I like history books.
History is made by the bold, brave, and those willing to pay for the price if they fall climbing the ladder. Not people who hide or fuddy duddy old men who just want to pin another useless medal on their chest.
I'm on the fence.... These young men do seem to be the only people "brave" if you can call it that (pen name) enough to speak truth to power in the community beyond the regulars whom have either been neutered by the political rivalry or tuned out by "the people"..
Or they are just bird dawging any "resistance" so that it can be identified and silenced or crushed. I'd never thought of it till you put it forward.... I guess down that alley they could be considered useful idiots as well.
My comment was directly to Ingles and the commission. To me other than Benzig (when not servicing emergency services) the commission has utterly bought into leftist culture (govt. is the solution not the problem), Lansing dollars, "experts", and they are SUPER high on their own farts.... Any "playing to the crowd" they are doing is 100% to maintain power... "47 votes is not a mandate", and I agree once we all have to turn around and focus on our lives Doug n' Co. will go right back to government first policy on everything as they has his entire tenure on the commission. The commission fear and hate grassroots anything-its a direct threat to their bloated useless (to anyone but themselves) power.
It's more a philosophy (objectivism) wrapped in a fiction novel. Rand left the Soviet Union in 1926 to come to the U.S., and much of her writing centers on the oppression of the human spirit, the evils of collectivism and the celebration of the individual, with of course her experiences in the Soviet Union acting as a catalyst.
I'm a history nut myself, and agree with your thoughts.
The local issue, at least when I was involved and suspect still now, is widespread apathy and sloth. . These aren't super hero's, the Wiley's, the county, the city... but fallible men and woman. A little bit of focus and using the law and process, can take them down. Nor are things black and white, as you pointed out with Benzing. It's just a shame they didn't focus on repairing what they had, vs lining the pockets of Motorola. But I digress.
By and large hiding behind a pen name discredits you. I wore my activism and successes with pride, the pinnacle being when from the council chambers, then councilman, and college crony Patrick Flannery labeled me and a few other citizens the "Hillsdale Six" relevant to issues we had exposed with the city. And yes, he meant the mark of the devil. Thank you Patrick ;-)
Now, what we have here is college students or college affiliated young individuals. That's really the only true power in town, the college. They can destroy your business, or as a few it has been widely reported found out, get you terminated as an employee. I had the advantage of all my income coming from outside the county, and good legal representation, yet they still tried with me for speaking out.
So they theoretically have a good reason to hide, yet it's trivial to find out who they are, as Ms. Swan has in a few cases. So really no reason to hide, if the college wants you, they will get you, if they have leverage. Nobody from the city or county is going to do shit against them. John Hancock signed his signature big and bold for a reason on the Declaration of Independence.
That leftist culture has been there for a while, abet I agree with your thoughts on it amplifying. Wiley took over $250,000 in farm subsidies.
Really just stay the course, and don't fuck up, is the path to victory here. Be it America First failing to file their delegate request timely, using a blind notary to notarize their PD filings (and spoiling many of them) or most recently, Paladino's appointee Richardson not familiarizing himself with the law and rules on the the compensation committee and screwing the pooch on that.
Make no mistake, there is a GOB (good old boy) network in place, or if you want to call it an establishment or RINO. The key is not to flail on social media, but target, focus and just be a little smarter then they are. And speaking of, I commend the Clark's for their focus here with the citizen ballot initiative. That's what is going to get stuff done.
History is the best teacher, most especially your own personal history, prospective is necessary to have any shot at being wise.
We are all men, we all sin.... we all have desires.... and we all at least on occasion rip one and admire it far too much. What I can't handle is the "high horse" stuff. That's when I start asking questions and looking deeper. No one mounts the high horse without stepping on others backs to do so.
Man the commission loves those guys from motorola.... I'm wondering if its sexual or financial.... ;), but whatever it is, it's disgusting.
Courthouse, radios, school buildings, roads, rail lines, trail, rearing ponds.... we take care of nothing here... I can't see the angle but there has to be one.... other than good olde corruption and sloth. Or maybe just inbread hubris... idk, but it drives me knutz.
Hillsdale township board of trustees just voted to raise township hall rental rates by 50%... But yet the gutters that drain to the foundation, the malfunctioning toilet, the dead bugs in the lights, chipped paint on all the baseboards.... nope, leave it... and anyone who wants it fixed is a "problem".
Pat, huh.... it is interesting that he sits the school board but controls the purse strings at the college..... That seems a conflict of interest given the college's push for charter schools nationwide. Conflicts of interest are resoundly ignored in this community. I think it might just be a symptom of population size but it's another huge problem I'm having with my township. School board is full of those who do not think taxpayers or parents matter much beyond dollars into the system. We are mules to hee or haw to them and if we kick we are to be made into glue along with our child... The school district and its BOA are one of the real issues in this community that need to be overcome before anything will ever change.
The college is to me a power... The other non profits have eaten into some of that as the community has descended. The college seems split into 3ish factions all with differing goals. The "clan" I keep rubbing with in township seems to have wildly different goals than the "PhD crew" PS. But they will all unite if they see any "attack" on the college... and many times that "attack" is just someone asking questions... This is a company town, they run it.... just feels like lately they are running it all over the place and down the drain.
Is or can do? People, most people won't pick a fight unless they think they can win.... LOL most people, I really need to be better about it... but I love a good fight, I can not lie.
Huh, well isn't that interesting... Have you ever met a guy with a comb over who had integrity? Heck they lie to themselves every day, when they comb it over.... Just a observation one bald man about others...
Man they did just melt those wings on one night didn't they? Just so stupid to have the guards and bar entry... Had to be an idea Darrin had.... Someone was high on something when they all decided to do something that short sighted. I came on the scene right after and really had no idea for a while... Played right into "Berts" hands...
The compensation stuff. Penny and Bill (man I do a great Bill impression!) were wrong, its a big number but not completely out of hand. My supervisor gets paid $1000/ meeting, treasurer and clerk $1500...According to Trustee Emery... Honest the city needs to pay them more and demand more... I realize its a bit backwards.... but the pay range wasn't too far out of bounds... and once you pay someone for a certain job there will be more competition for said job.... Or maybe I'm just desperate for accountability and grasping at straws.... but the raise not completely out of hand as many phrased it as...
I'm running my own gauntlet in township... Just because I care about my township and want to see things "tighten up" and become more of a community...Its insane the rancor I stirred up just asking questions and making observations.... But that is part for the course for any ghetto...
I'm not sure the value of social media... IMO the power here is in whispers not posts.. The posts may start the whispers but it's those that control the whispers who control the community.. Missy has done very well at this over the last two years. Doug is masterful as is David. My township board and especially our supervisor are adept as well.
Everyone here gets all worked up about social issues, that's why lifeway's is the thing it is... Social issues... There is no interest in the community to follow the money. Not from the people or press. Its all just personal grudges and battles about jazz hands.... I'm guessing its for a reason I've not yet uncovered or its the puppet mastery of the whispers, i'm not sure...
Have you ever heard of Piers Gaveston 1st Earl of Cornwall? Names are fun but be careful they make you more enemies than allies..... Lil' Bert is funny, well done.... got a chuckle...
Jar Jar was Sith Lord and no creature in the known universe was more in tune with the force.... Think of him as evil Charlie Chaplin.
Nutrition is a key educational pillar. We really don't fund it or education surrounding it nearly enough. I'm nearly convinced there is some "game" to make all public kids stupid with dull expectations, over reliance on "Chromebooks", and absolutely piss poor nutrition (SUGAR EVERYWHERE!)... I'm convinced if we just fed our kids better we'd have 25% better educational outcomes... (steps down from soap box).
Many Hillsdale voters do not vote their own self interest...... or do they (those that actually vote in primaries and special elections).
I had the pleasure to talk to one of the judges a couple years ago, she explained things to me that I'd never even think to ask. We are just hosing down our local justice system with 100 degree "road piss" (urine in 20oz bottle then tossed out of car). The radio millage was to me just another shrimp on the barbie.
$113,000 on the "drawings"? I assume the name Varro will ring bells... Benzig seems to be the only one seeing the Numidians at the rear?

Again, critical thinking.
Did you even read what I posted? Because it's all there. Feel free, if you feel up to it.
We read your post. It was self-indulgent, no doubt, and failed to respond to our points enumerated above.
