Feminist Icon, Library Board Director Resigns Post
In a stunning and brave moment, Library Director Jessica Spangler resigned her post, going into effect on August 25. According to some Facebook sources, and hinted at in her own account, Spangler resigned because she disdains “Joshua Paladino, George Allen, and the rest of the extreme right, radical, thug, Hillsdale College.” Get a good, long look at the smirk on the face of this monster:
The Facebook source, Miss Penny Swan, enacting her best Harry Jaffa impersonation, warned against the “horrendous Nazism path” that Hillsdale has chosen. Since, of course, it is no light matter to call people Nazis, we will assume that Miss Swan knows something we do not. We await the presentation of her evidence.1
In any case, Spangler’s letter (packet, 37) was written with “mixed emotions.” Unable to resign without one last swipe, albeit passive-aggressive, she complained of “the challenges posed by the new leadership structure within the Library Board.”
Upcoming Events
City Council, Tuesday September 5, 7:00:
We recognize that last February’s ice storm was an exceptional event. We understand that there will be certain costs associated with such things. But we do not recognize the need for the city to pay an outside source over $50,000 to mulch branches and sticks from that storm. Surely bureaucracy will not allow it, but bonfires are free. See packet, page 42.
Kim Thomas, City Assessor and Code Enforcer, is not satisfied with her city-issued 2015 Ford Explorer. She hopes to replace her “old” car with a 2023 AWD Ford Escape for $30,000. Before you complainers complain that this price is too high, or that her current car isn’t that old, or that a decent used car would be sufficient, or that her task requires nothing larger than a sedan, you should know that the new car has both heated seats and a heated steering wheel. Alternatively, she would accept a Jeep Compass Sport 4x4. Recall the property tax bills you just paid as you mull over this situation.

The grant application, especially for federal grants, is a beast and requires basically to set aside a week or two of time just focused on it. We are deeply disturbed that the non-profit sector is struggling to gain access to the more than “$60bn for environmental justice investments” in the Inflation Reduction Act.

The failure of Kia and Hyundai to install basic auto-theft prevention technology in these models is sheer negligence, and as a result, a citywide and nationwide crime spree around automobile theft has been unfolding right before our eyes. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.
In this lawsuit, parents whose elementary-aged children attend Montgomery County Public Schools ("MCPS") seek the ability to opt their children out of reading and discussion of books with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer characters because the books' messages contradict their sincerely held religious beliefs . . . The parents have moved for a preliminary injunction . . . the motion is denied. A federal judge in Maryland holds that parents cannot prevent public schools from forcing their children to read LGBT propaganda, in a case which appears to hinge on a rather loose (in this age of social contagion) distinction between “permissible influence” and “potentially impermissible indoctrination.” The Becket Fund is handling the case.
In 2022, we saw a full-scale leadership turnover in the House [within the Democratic party], with younger non-white lawmakers moving to the fore. African American Hakeem Jeffries became the Democratic leader while Latino Pete Aguilar took the third position. Katherine Clark, a white woman, took the second spot—but she has a transgender-identified kid who was arrested for crimes he committed as a member of antifa, which affords her valuable identity politics points. That day broke our tradition of peacefully transferring power which is among the most precious things that we had as Americans. Notice I said had. We don’t have it anymore. Farewell
It is, after all, hard to romanticize one’s disputes when one’s primary opponents are mostly middle class fathers. Especially when said fathers take over local institutions by legal means, merely ignoring the American Library Association and its fake rules. Then again, maybe this is exactly what they mean when they write the word Nazi. If you’re not fighting Nazis, are you really living at all?
